In 1984, Steve Sadaka, our CEO, founded StevenDouglas as a search firm based in Miami and serving the South Florida marketplace. Our expansion into various industry sectors was predicated on an expansion of the region that we were serving initially. In the 80’s, the primary industry in Miami was Banking so the firm’s client base naturally was highly focused on the financial services sector because of demand for talent in that industry. Over the years, as the South Florida economy started to grow, the Real Estate and Construction sector became another focus for the firm with many company’s headquarters in the region.
Known as a tourism hub because of our great weather, the hospitality industry took off and the cruise line industry was born with all of the major players calling South Florida home. Before long, other industries started to emerge with major Retailers, Restaurant Chains, Consumer Products and Transportation/Logistics companies expanding in the regions. A major airline was based in Miami, so manufacturers and distributors emerged to service this big customer. The aging population drove expansion in the Healthcare and Life Sciences sector and after IBM built the first ever PC in Boca Raton, many technology companies were launched by former executives.
Today, we have a network of offices throughout North America with industry-focused experts that serve 8 major sectors, but we still consider ourselves industry agnostic. As a firm, we have clients in other sectors not listed, such as Professional Services, Education, Non-profit, Government and we have not encountered a search that we could not fill.
